The UK Foreign Office has warned its citizens who will travel to Turkey for health tourism and said 22 citizens who have received medical services in Turkey since 2019 have died.

In a ministry statement indicating that Turkey is preferred by many UK citizens for dental, surgery and aesthetic surgery as part of health tourism, it noted that standards for medical procedures and treatments vary around the world.
In a travel advisory that advises British citizens considering medical care in Turkey to do their own research, “it is unwise to rely on private companies that have a financial interest in arranging your treatment abroad. We know that since January 2019, 22 British citizens have died in Turkey after visiting health tourism.

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), more than 670,000 people came to Turkey for the purpose of health tourism in 2021.
