Waller made an assessment of the economic outlook at the American think tank Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).Saying it’s been almost a year since the Fed tightened monetary policy, Waller recalled that interest rates had been raised to bring inflation down to the 2% target.Waller pointed out that the purpose of raising interest rates is to support lower inflation by slowing demand and economic activity, and said this is affecting some sectors and consumer spending. Last year, he remains cautious about the inflation outlook and supports continued tightening of monetary policy. Given the current data, there is less turbulence going forward. I am in favor of an increase. We have a long way to go to our 2 percent inflation target, and I I hope to support further monetary tightening.” he said.
