Judging by total nominal GDP values, Guangdong has maintained its position as the highest in China in this area with 12.9 trillion yuan for the 34th consecutive year. Just behind it was Jiangsu province with a GDP of 12.3 trillion. Shandong Province is in third place with a GDP of 8.7 trillion yuan.

The GDP volumes of Beijing and Shanghai, which are directly subordinate to the central government, still exceeded 4 trillion yuan each. Meanwhile, all Chinese provinces, local governments and autonomous regions have set targets ranging from 4 percent to 9.5 percent for growth rates by 2023. Most were found to be between 5 and 6 percent.

On the other hand, Hainan Province, which is known as a popular tourist destination in southern China, has set its highest GDP growth target for 2023 as it continues to create a new border region for foreign trade. In contrast, the lowest GDP growth target belongs to the municipality of Tianjin in northern China.
